Share a Story

This program is designed for parents, guardians, and caregivers to develop best practices for helping their young children develop a lifelong love of reading.  Tutors will use their expertise in adult literacy to tailor their assistance to the literacy level of each parent/caregiver. Singing, playing and telling stories are ways parents can help young children understand and say new words. Talking together about pictures in storybooks is another great way to teach words, numbers, and letters. You don't need to read to have fun sharing a book!

See the brochure below for more details...

Read to a Doll

Kids often times feel comfortable reading to their favorite doll.  This is a great way for children to practice their reading skills in a friendly environment!  This is available at any time during our open hours! You can bring your own doll, or we have some available in our children's area.

Check out our Children's room!!!

McLit has a children's room for parents and children ages 1 - 5 years old. Stop by for a visit. We can help you find good books and activities that will plant seeds for reading.

The art on the walls of the Children's area is done by local artist Darya Pineda, check out more of her work here.

    Letters to Santa

    Write a letter to Santa!

From the end of November until Christmas McLit places mailboxes around Wausau for you to write a letter to Santa! Stop by a mailbox and pick up a blank note (or download one below).  Write what you would like Santa to know along with your name and address.  Remember Santa wears glasses and needs you to write clearly your name and address.  If you are patient, you might even get a reply!!!
